Parkinson’s Disease (PD) is a neurodegenerative disorder that affects multiple systems in
the body. Approximately 60,000 Americans are diagnosed with PD each year. LSVT BIG
and LSVT LOUD are evidence based treatment programs with standardized protocols based
on the Lee Silverman Voice Treatment.
LSVT LOUD is a Speech Therapy treatment for patients with PD and other neurological
disorders that has been scientifically studied for 25 years. It trains patients with PD to
use their voice at a more normal loudness level while speaking at home, work or in the
community, improving their communication.
LSVT BIG is a Physical / Occupational Therapy treatment that trains people with PD and
other neurological disorders to use their body more normally and improve their mobility
and ADL performance. It is an intensive and high effort amplitude-based program for the
limb motor system.
There are currently 19,000+ Speech-Language Pathologists trained and certified in LSVT
LOUD in 70 countries and 16,000+ Occupational/Physical Therapists trained and certified
in LSVT BIG in 42 countries. The Rehabilitation Center for Children and Adults provides
both LSVT BIG and LSVT LOUD programs, provided by its two LSVT certified clinicians
for people in all stages of Parkinson’s Disease.
Kelley Skillestad, Speech-Language Pathologist. Kelly received her Master of Science in Speech Therapy from Florida Atlantic University in 2004 and is a certified clinician in LSVT LOUD.
