Profile on Pam: 25 Year Anniversary

Pamela ("Pam") J. Henderson joined the staff of the Rehabilitation Center for Children and Adults twenty-five years ago in June, 1974. Hailing from Tennessee, she began as a Speech-Language Pathologist, advanced to the Department Director position, Assistant Executive Director and finally, in the spot she has held since 1990, the Executive Director. She looks forward to transitioning the Rehabilitation Center for the next millennium.

In fact, the Center will celebrate its sixtieth anniversary in the year 2000. Pam's leadership is credited with keeping the Center on track with its original mission, improving the physical function, communication and independence of people with disabilities regardless of financial ability. Today you might find Pam climbing ladders to maintain the facility, visiting the playground with the preschoolers, preparing a grant request, devising software changes, developing new friends for the Center, participating in medical reviews, comforting a patient, or presenting the Center's message within the county-wide community.

At the end of a long day, when she finally returns home, she finds Bimmer, her faithful blue-eyed dog, lovingly anticipating her arrival. Beside her beloved pet is her other constant companion, husband Rick, an engineer working in Boca Raton. Pam and Rick have included the Rehabilitation Center in their estate plan.

New Playground Something to Talk About

Five-year-old Carly Merkle of West Palm Beach plays 'telephone' as she listens to a friend at the other end of the tubing. The Rehabilitation Center for Children and Adults held a ribbon-cutting ceremony recently for its new 'interactive' preschool playground. The Palm Beach Rotary clubs and others supported the project.
